Enter contests, even if they aren’t your field of work. All the more chance of being noticed.

Join some networking sites that centre around your speciality, e.g. Deviant art, Vimeo to showcase your work. Go out and contact peoples yourself, people that you have seen being advertised, look them up and get in touch.

Go to events like Ag Ideas as well as semi-perminant

You can maintain the relationships by just keeping in contact with people. Ask them to lunch. Every now and then send them an e-mail or something. Also refer them, scratch their back and they’ll scratch yours.

Make a lasting first impression. That way at the end of the day when they go through the however many business cards they collected, they will remember you.
